Mobile Phlebotomists

A mobile phlebotomist travels outside of a clinic or hospital to the patient’s location to procure blood samples. This may be for blood drives or to take blood samples of people who are not able to travel such as nursing homes, rehabilitation centers or hospice. They may even travel to the patient’s home.

Who Uses This Service?

Some employers have implemented wellness programs and partnered with local hospitals and clinics to bring mobile phlebotomists into their workplace. These programs help foster a healthy and productive work environment, allowing workers to have a peaceful lunch break or weekend, instead of going to the doctor.

Busy people generally find it easier for a phlebotomist to come to them than for them to schedule a time to drive to the doctor’s office. For example, several new parents use these services. With younger children, it may be challenging to find someone to babysit for a few hours. The ability to get your blood drawn while the kids are in direct supervision or taking a nap can ease their stress levels. Other busy people, such as celebrities and politicians, may also use mobile phlebotomy services to maximize their privacy and avoid drawing attention to themselves in a public setting.

The most common patients for a mobile phlebotomy service are the elderly and people with illnesses. Both of these populations may not be able to access a hospital and may be required to remain in hospice or nursing homes.

Although these populations utilize mobile phlebotomy services more often, anyone is allowed to use these services. Most people find that getting regular blood draws at a hospital can be exhausting, especially if you have to go every few days. Depending on one’s well-being, it may be best to stay at home instead of depleting your energy. Regardless, if mobile phlebotomy services are intriguing to you, it is worth researching.
